Qualifying cars must meet all of these requirements:
- Have a total sale price of $25,000 or less including non-government fees (e.g., dealer-mandated shipping, and delivery fees).
- Be manufactured at least 2 years prior to the year of purchase (for 2024, only models made in 2022 or earlier).
- Have a fuel cell or plug-in EV with a capacity of at least 7 kilowatt hours.
- Be bought for use within the U.S.
- Have a gross weight of less than 14,000 lbs.
- Have not been purchased by another individual since August 16, 2022.
